Day 1: August 12th Arrived Accra, Ghana -

Zorkie Nelson's Home and Village

Map of Accra Region: this will help to follow as I am bouncing around

Ride from Kotoka International Airport to Zorkie Nelson's community

One lesson I learned today is that in Ghana, when you purchase land you absolutely need to have legit papers.  If you are not careful, the person you just purchased from May just sell it again to another.

On that land you can build what you want / can afford.  When you see all the structures we passed on our way to Zorkie's community just keep in mind many of those small structures that are stores, services, etc might be the only building that those folks own.  Meaning after their shop closes they also bed down there at night.

Everyone has their own thing - creates an incredible community!!!

And now we are in Zorkie's community, driving to the nearest point the vehicle can safely travel but because the roads can erode due to the rainy season, the word road is a bit of a stretch -

But Here we are at Zorkie's beautiful home and compound in Accra.  We are in the Ablekuma Region of Ghana.

Crazy thing, homes beautiful - roads not really sure if I would call them roads but then who am I?!

Hey, Mary, Chickens and goats running all over the place, see the one in the Mango Tree?  Dad would have been in his glory.  Told him as well as mom that I hope they were with me...

How I feel right now?  Contentment.  Easy. Kind of like home on a spiritual level.  Just say'n!!!

Met a beautiful soul today that spent most of the earlier part of the day with us.  His name Nii Eyee.  Gentle giant of a man.  And a brilliant drummer.  We are going to be playing together along with another beautiful man named Nii Yeeye.  Nii is their royal surname.

Anyway, as Nii Eyee was getting ready to catch his ride home, I was invited to walk with Zorkie and Nii Eyee to experience Zorkie's community.  You can not stop feeling the simple, gentle ease of the energy in the air.  All day long I hear no extraneous noise.  Nature, the breeze, the incredible music in the language, people working and children playing.

The sad reality it pretty clear - when it comes to the haves and the have nots.  But the Smiles!  Everywhere you look.  Lesson - for me? Absolutely.
